Zebra Housing - International and UK Student Accommodation
About We are a long established “not for profit” London housing association, offering accommodation and support services for single international students, couples and families. Over the 60 years of our history we have housed hundreds of Imperial College students. Our Jerome House, Glendower Place, building is a mere 5 minutes’ walk from Imperial’s South Kensington campus, but Imperial students also live in our other residences. All our homes are centrally located in Zones 1 & 2 within easy walking distance of tube and bus services. We encourage bicycle use, providing areas for storage. We offer reasonably priced rooms, studios and flats in attractive, safe and friendly environments. All of our residences benefit from the services of a resident warden and deputy warden. We employ our own maintenance team, and contract out a high quality cleaning service. Our Health and Safety standards are very high, and we employ our own dedicated fire officer. Our rents include heating, water and WiFi and there are subsidised laundry facilities on all sites. Our buildings are not traditional halls of residence but apartment blocks, and many of them are situated in culturally renowned locations. All of our rooms and flats benefit from their own kitchens, and the majority their own WC/bathroom facilities. We house international students, most of who are studying at doctorate & Masters level, on renewable student tenancies. We allow students to stay in their accommodation until they have completed their studies and this can be between 1 and 5 years. Residents can give us notice to leave of 28 days at any time during their tenancy. Many Postgraduate students don’t have a fixed term time, and so we have tenancies starting, and ending, throughout the year. Many of our residents are mature students, and so bring their partners or spouses, and children, with them to the UK. Every year a number of children are born to our residents while they are in London. We are very conscious that studying in a foreign city can be isolating and stressful. Students come to the UK both to study, and to understand and enjoy, British culture. We run a number of programmes to support students, and to help them enjoy, appreciate and participate in British cultural and intellectual life. Our subsidised Theatre and Exhibition programme is very popular. Our aim is to provide a quiet and safe environment for residents and their families, and responsive support to our residents. We pride ourselves on giving international students the opportunity to live like a Londoner. We advocate tolerance, understanding and internationalism and believe that we can promote this through enabling people from anywhere in the world to study and live in great locations in London. Zebra has 134 flats, employs eleven staff, and provides accommodation to 250 people. The Association’s work is governed by a wide range of legislation, and we are regulated by the Homes England Government Agency. We are accredited by ANUK. Applicants apply on line through our website and we re-invest all our profits in our buildings and services to residents.
